Laboratory Gas Installation

We design and install laboratory gas systems according to the work to be done and the type and purity of the gases in use. The gas design is prepared as part of the mechanical design, and we install the lines from the gas cylinder cabinets to the points of use on benches, service panels and fume hoods.

Gas outlets are shown on mechanical drawings produced from our laboratory layout drawings, so it is clear before installation which gas reaches which bench and which fume hood.

Gas Valves and Line Components

We group laboratory gas systems by the type of gas they serve:

• Flammable gas valves
• Technical gas valves
• Pressure-reducing regulators
• Manifolds

The valves are made in three versions, depending on where they are mounted: bench-mounted, panel-mounted and fume-hood-mounted, and are chosen and fitted to suit the benches being installed. Valve colour coding follows DIN EN 13792.

Materials Chosen by Gas Purity

• Gases of 5.0 purity: the valve bodies are brass with an epoxy coating. Pipework inside the benches and connecting pipes are copper, with brass fittings.
• Pure gases of 5.5 and 6.0 purity: the valve internals are stainless steel, and the pipework inside the benches, connecting pipes and fittings are grade 316L stainless steel.

Storing Gas Cylinders

Compressed gas cylinders are a serious safety risk in laboratories. For their safe storage we manufacture indoor and outdoor gas cylinder cabinets to EN 14470-2. The cabinets are made of 1.20 mm galvanised steel, electrostatically coated with epoxy powder paint and oven-cured; the doors and side walls are double-skinned. A fold-down ramp makes loading cylinders easier, and an in-line polypropylene fan can be added to ventilate the cabinet.
